Similarly, the Universal mother, Goddess Parvathi ,wanted to bless human beings and hence decided to leave Kailash and manifest herself as a hill. Lord Shiva, who is never separated from his consort followed suit and transformed himself in the form of SWAMBU LINGAM.
The LINGAM resides in the centre of the triangle shaped hillwhich is formed from a single rock. Among the various names of Lord Shiva , 1008 names are considered as holy , of which, SAKTHISHIV is considered supreme since it encompasses the entire divinity. Since the hill is the manifestation of Goddess Sakthi and Lord Shiva , it is called as). MAHADEVAMALAI ( MAHA in Tamil means PHENOMENAL IN STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION

So, even chanting or thinking of MAHADEVAMALAI will confer untold blessings .When people visit this hill, they are blessed with good health, long life, wealth and will be rid to past karmas and all negativity.
Dharshan to a devotee during the Pandiar period:
A Businessman and Philanthropist named Tharisanan wanted to visit Mallikarjunar Jyothi Lingam during Mahasivarathri. He was old and just three days before the sivarathri , he was unwell. He was extremely sad that he was not able to visit the Mallikarjunar. Lord Shiva disguised as a saint instructed Tharisanan to circumbulate the MAHADEVAMALAI three times and do the pooja in the hill itself and he will get the dharshan of Mallikarjunar. The disappearance of the saint made Tharisanan realize that the Supreme Lord had come in person hearing his distress and Tharisanan followed the saint advise. He could get a enlightening dharshan of Mallikarjuna in MAHADEVAMALAI.
As a proof to this story, devotees can have the blessing of Lord's feet , where , Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvathi gave the dharshan to the businessman on nandi vehicle. Special pooja's are performed at this place.
